The bad guys are organised, so we have to be too
“The UK is one of the world’s leading digital nations. Much of our prosperity now depends on our ability to secure our technology, data and networks from the many threats we face. Yet cyber attacks are growing more frequent, sophisticated and damaging when they succeed. So we are taking decisive action to protect both our economy and the privacy of UK citizens…this includes a drive to get the best young minds into cyber security.”
– The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer

The Inter-ACE Programme
The Inter-ACE Cyber Security Challenge is the biggest cyber competition for university students in the UK. Organised by the University of Cambridge, and supported by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and Cabinet Office, the Inter-ACE Programme exists to encourage the best young minds into cyber security and is part of HM Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy 2016-2021.
New in 2018!
Now in its third year, the next edition of the Inter-ACE will take place in March 2018. Due to demand, the competition will be extended from one to two days of Capture the Flag style challenges.
The Inter-ACE will once again be open to teams from all 14 Academic Centres of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSRs). Plus, for the first time this year, teams from an additional eleven universities, which have either performed strongly at an ACE-CSR assessment panel or offer NCSC certified degrees, are also invited to take part. Making a potential competition base of 25 universities excelling in cyber!
In addition to the face-to-face competition, the Inter-ACE programme also offers online competitions and two annual training workshops, which expose students to the concepts and skills needed to compete and ultimately enter the cyber profession.
In total, over 300 enthusiastic students, from up to 25 universities, will be able to take part in the Inter-ACE training programme. Of these, the best 100+ students will be selected to represent their university and battle it out to take the winner’s crown at the Inter-ACE 2018!
The winning team from the Inter-ACE automatically qualifies for the 3-day cross-Atlantic Cambridge2Cambridge Cyber Challenge, which will return to MIT Boston, later in the year.
